Beating Around the Bush...

If you're implementing a new system (or getting ready to), let's quit beating around the bush. Let's cut through everything the salesmen, consultants, and members of your own internal staff have told you. Let's stop pretending to be optimistic and say what we're all thinking: there is a very good chance (better than 50-50) that this project will cost more, take longer, and be less successful than what has been trumpeted. This project WILL fail.

But this is not about focusing on the negative. It is more than likely that the new system will improve your processes. The system will probably boost sales, productivity, accountability, return on investment, etc., etc. -- but that will not happen as fast as promised. Without a doubt, the system will be easier to use for someone in your organization, but not for everyone. Some people inside your organization will love the new system and declare it the greatest thing since sliced Wonder bread; others will proclaim it the worst expenditure in corporate history.

So it goes with systems integration. This blog is here to tell the straight truth and to do so without descending into the typical jargon that proves so useless. If I use it without qualification and explanation, I want you to call me on it, because jargon is the crutch of the weak, wielded most often by those who don't know what they're talking about.

The small cogs in the big machines use consulting jargon without regard for alternate explanations, and often without knowing what their words even mean. Here at Why Your Project Will Fail, we're all about looking at things with an analytical eye and a distaste for boiler-plate. This blog (and the forthcoming book) is about putting your project back on track by reminding you the real reasons you're set up to fail.

Note that I don't sugar-coat this --- by default you are set up to fail; only with a LOT of work will you set yourself up to succeed. Organizations require attention, care, and intelligence to execute meaningful change.

Welcome to the truth about Why Your Project Will Fail... Together we will find success...
